METHODOLOGY FOR AN ART PROGRAM
CONSULTATION, ORGANIZATION AND PLANNING
Consult with the Art Committee to develop a strategy and a focus for the artwork collection.
Meet with the architects/designers to coordinate art program and to review floor plans with suggested art allocations, lighting plans and special installation considerations for commissions and other artworks. Establish schedule for future meetings.
INVENTORY REVIEW OF EXISTING ARTWORKS
Identify client's existing artworks for re-use.
Submit report on recommendations regarding re-use, reframing and/or disposition of existing artwork.
Determine current appraisal value for artworks designated for re-use, if appropriate.
ART ALLOCATION AND BUDGET PLANNING
Allocate artworks on floor plans, showing placement of new acquisitions (by budget category) and existing artworks
Prepare a proposed budget and alternatives, if appropriate, based on the art allocation plan. Budget will include cost of artwork, framing, packing and shipping, installation, documentation of new and reused existing artworks, insurance, sales or use tax, wall labels, fee and reimbursable expenses.
Submit proposed art allocation plan and budget and obtain approval of budget from Art Committee.
ART SELECTION AND PRESENTATION
Research art (including commissions) in various mediums from international, national, regional and local sources, including artists, galleries, auction houses, recognized dealers and private collectors.
Present artwork selections to the Art Committee on a schedule keyed to move-in timetables.
Approach artwork presentations as follows:
Works of art: Present a selection of artworks for proposed purchase to the Art Committee in a ratio of about three-to-one i.e., approximately three artworks presented for every one artwork required. Alternatively, the consultant will accompany the Art Committee on visits to galleries and artist's studios to view recommended artworks for major locations. The remainder of the artworks will be presented by slide or photodocumentation.
Commissioned works of art: Present recommendations for artists to the Art Committee by photodocumentation of executed commissions. Further meetings encompass on-site installation visits, artist interviews, and review of drawings and maquettes for proposed artworks.
Coordinate shipping and storage of artwork for presentations, as required.
